Sigrid Hovmand trained as a potter at Kähler Ceramics in Næstved, Denmark and after a year's study in the USA, started her studio in Nordby, on the island of Samsø, in 1979.

She works in stoneware, where her personal expression has a solid basis in the craft.

The whole process, from throwing on the wheel to the finished product, is done by hand.
Fired to completion in a gas kiln at 1300 C in reduction atmosphere to achieve the desired colour of the clay and glazes.
